Training

AWA WORKSHOPS
The sessions are designed to provide clubs with hands-on assistance with preparing AWAs for club employees.

Attendees will workshop their own documents to suit their clubs’ needs.

Follow up telephone advice will be provided for attendees who need more individual assistance. Due to the interactive nature of these sessions, numbers are strictly limited to 10 clubs (maximum of two persons per club).

BUSINESS BRIEFINGS
Business Briefings are held monthly, with a number of sessions held in regional locations throughout the year.
Business Briefings inform clubs about current and future issues affecting the club movement. Topics confirmed for 2007 are:

  • Sporting Club tax exemptions
  • Latest changes to WorkChoices
  • Changes to the Equal Opportunity Act
  • Gaming:
    • Caps
    • ATMs
    • New government
    • Code of Practice
  • Contracting out services
  • Smoking legislation, effective 1 July 2007

MENU COSTING WORKSHOPS
Running a food operation is not just about making great food, its about making money as well. This one day workshop is facilitated by Andrew Briese, author of Cooking the Books, a professional cookery teacher at William Angliss Institute of TAFE.

Andrew, a qualified chef has had over 18 years experience in the industry. He has worked for 5 star hotels in Europe, Japan, Melbourne and through his experience found that making money out of selling food is an essential skill and one that is greatly sort out by management and small businesses.

The workshop is conducted in small groups to ensure that participants have the opportunity to get the most from the activities.

Book early for these sessions are places are limited.

OH&S TRAINING
ClubsVIC, in conjunction with William Angliss Institute of TAFE, will be conducting the approved 5 day Occupational Health & Safety training course throughout 2008. This course is designed to develop the knowledge and practical skills of club personnel to deal with OH&S issues and hazards in the workplace.

The training is clubs specific and is delivered by trainers with experience in the hospitality industry. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the 5 days and comprehensive course notes.

The 5 day training is ideal for Health & Safety Representatives, club managers and OH&S committee members. The training will be interactive and practical, and those attending will gain experience in conducting a thorough workplace risk assessment on location at a particular club.

Club managerial staff & club committee members have the option of attending day 1 & 2 only of the 5 day course, which will equip them with knowledge of the OH&S legal duties of the various workplace parties, what their role is in ensuring compliance with OH&S - including the heightened consultation obligations under the OH&S Act 2004 that commenced on 1 January - and how to resolve safety issues that arise in the workplace.

BOWLS DAY
ClubsVIC Bowls Day 2008 was held on Friday 22 February at Mulgrave Country Club. The full field of 42 teams thoroughly enjoyed the day’s bowls and lunch. The lunchtime raffle was a huge success, raising almost $2000.00 for charity.

Thanks also go to the many event sponsors including Foster’s, Coca Cola, McWilliams, CGS Group and HostPLUS, Johns Lyng Group and Allstyle Furniture.

GOLF DAY
ClubsVIC's annual Gala Golf Day was held on Monday 21 April at Southern Golf Club. The full field of golfers that took to the greens enjoyed a perfect day and a magnificant course.

The evening’s presentation dinner was compered by ClubsVIC President, Leon Wiegard and featured entertainment from Olimpian Russell Mark.

ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
The ClubsVIC Achievement Awards is the biggest event on the club calendar. Held at the prestegious Crown Palladium ballroom, the awards recognise the efforts and achievements of clubs over the past tweleve months. The 2008 Achievement Awards will be held on Sunday 30 November.
