Council

The State Council of Clubs Victoria is comprised of elected representatives of all regions throughout Victoria.

State Council meetings are primarily held 6 times annually with the capacity to vary the regularity and timing to accommodate various industry events. State Councillors are provided with a variety of information including financial performance, advocacy briefing, operations briefing and general briefing papers to assist in their role as a leader within their elected constituency. The business and briefing papers are often used for the purposes of providing a report/briefing to a regional meeting.

Primarily, a State Councillor’s role is to:

  • Provide recommendations on matters relevant to the Victorian club industry and the conduct of business of Clubs Victoria.
  • Provide an update to Clubs Victoria on issues of industry interest, occurring in a Councillor’s region.
  • Receive reports from Clubs Victoria on a wide range of industry issues and provide feedback on the direction being taken by Clubs Victoria.
  • Participate, where required, in sub-committees for the investigation, research and feasibility of concepts and initiatives of club industry interest.
  • Act, where required, as a media spokesperson for their region, using the resources of Clubs Victoria to guarantee consistency of response.
  • Assist in the co-ordination and running of regional meetings.
  • Provide a report to regional meetings on issues of industry and regional relevance, irrespective of whether the Clubs Victoria representative is in attendance at the regional meeting or not.
  • Provide assistance to Clubs Victoria member clubs, in the region requiring information regarding issues of industry and regional relevance.
  • Where possible assist in the marketing and promotion of services provided by Clubs Victoria and general promotion of the role of clubs to State and Local government representatives, media and the broader community.
  • Promote attendance at regional meetings.
  • Foster increased professionalism for managers and directors in the club movement through training and development initiatives

Method of Election of State Council

Elections for Clubs Victoria State Councillors are conducted annually as set out in Rules 40-44 of the Clubs Victoria Constitution. Nominations are called for by Circular each year.
